Football Fashion: Exploring the transition from fight wear to the fashion forward, 1977-1986
This dissertation topic I knew would push me out of my comfort zone and would allow me to delve into a subject I didn't have much initial knowledge on. The decision process stemmed from the research into athleisure and where this modern trend began. It soon became obvious how over-written and over researched this particular topic was. This initial research did however confirm that my dissertation question would be related around sportwear however, from a different angle. Looking through the decades of fashion, I was mesmerised by the era of the Casuals. The idea that wearing a specific item of clothing would determined an individuals position in society interested me. While delving into the world of Football Hooligans, it was interesting to see how this fashion phenomenon effects todays fashion trends and fashion businesses.
This dissertation includes a literature review alongside a general introduction, a methodology review, three chapters which analyse the ins and out of the specific era, publications from this time as well as the various fashion choices made by casuals.
